WEIGHT LOSS PSYCHOLOGY

You have been seeing the beautiful and thin models on the covers of magazines. In the big screen and on televis
ion, you are bombarded with actors and actresses who look absolutely perfect – they seem perfect all the time and never put on any weight.
Have you ever wonder why you are different from them? Are they from planet mars? Well, this may surprise you. A lot of these look-perfect actors and actress have at one time or another struggling to keep their great body shape. They have however, work through it lose those weight by adopting a new view about eating.

Whether you realize it or not, your mental state plays a significant role in helping you to lose weight successfully. This issue was researched and published in-depth in the 2004 October version of the Psychology today magazine. In this issue, the magazine highlighted the studies which showed that woman who have lost minimum 15 pounds, have moved on and maintained at that level for seven years on average.
All these women share something in common – they have a fantastic support group or network. With the help of this support group, they are able to achieve their weight loss target and maintain their shape. These networks meet regularly and encouraging the participants in the process.
This support group is also amazing as studies have shown that people who successfully lose weight, up to 90 percent of them will gain back those pounds in the period of five years.
As these women begin to lose weight, they get motivated and their mood change; a positive change from being depress to a happy person. This is more obvious on their transition from being labeled ‘fat’ to a success new shape.
These women have also picked up good healthy eating habits during their weight loss process and they are able to maintain that good habit. For these women, their mental health or play a major role. They realize that they cannot give in to negative feelings. They may feel frustrated but they hold on and continue to be positive and ultimately, they achieved their goal. They monitor their progress weekly and that adjustment can be made from time to time.
These women never give up. They do not want to start something and then fail at it. They recognize that it is a lifetime struggle to maintain their great body shape and hence they learn new healthy habits. These women have a great vision and realize the problems they have and took corrective actions to finally make it.
The weight loss experiences of these women are not direct – they do not lose weight straight away. Sometimes they gained some weight but that did not deter them from reaching their ultimate goal. They took the challenge and view this as temporary setbacks and this may be what differentiates them from others who have failed over the years. These women, dig-in, hold-on and preserve to the end.
For these women who have achieved their weight loss goal, they are genuinely happy. This is a great contrast from before whereby they are over weight and in depression. A mental and psychological change happens as they shift from being fat to being in great shape. When this happens, life takes a turn and they become more positive in taking on the challenges of life.
With success transformation, people surrounding these women will start to congratulate them and this in-turn motivated them to have the determination to finally nail those unwanted pounds.
It must be noted here that the psychology of weight loss is a complicated matter. There is no single ingredient that can turn a fat person into a thin one. However, recognizing that there is a psychological component to successful weight loss may, in fact, be half the battle. Once an individual recognizes that he or she is engaged in a psychological fight, he or she is better able to do battle. By retraining oneself to seek healthy approaches to diet, one can, in effect, mold oneself into a new individual–one that no longer lives to eat, but simply eats to live.
